Tornado Watch Issued for Minnesota and Wisconsin: What You Need to Know

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch as conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms. The storms are expected to move through in the early to mid-afternoon hours, potentially bringing large hail and damaging winds. Western Wisconsin and the northern end of the I-35 corridor face the highest chance of severe weather. The area is under a Level 2 and Level 3 risk of severe weather.

The storms will start earlier in central and southern Minnesota, before moving to the north and east. The Twin Cities metro could see storms in the early afternoon hours before wrapping up around 3-4 p.m. The storms are forecast to move out of the FOX 9 viewing area by the dinner hour.

After the storms, a cooler weekend is expected with widespread 50s on Friday afternoon and highs in the 50s on Saturday.

Central and eastern Minnesota, particularly Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Morrison and Wright Counties, and western Wisconsin are at the highest risk.
