West Virginia is reeling from catastrophic flash floods that struck over the weekend. Ohio County was particularly hard hit, experiencing several inches of rainfall in a short period, leading to rapidly rising floodwaters. First responders have been working to rescue those trapped in vehicles and buildings, with reports of people clinging to trees to escape the deluge.

The governor has declared a state of emergency in multiple counties, including Marion County, where a partial apartment collapse occurred due to the flooding. The focus remains on search and rescue efforts, as well as providing shelter for displaced residents. Power outages are widespread, and concerns about natural gas leaks are complicating restoration efforts.

Neighboring states, including Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky, also faced flash flood warnings as the severe weather system moved eastward. Residents in affected areas are urged to stay informed through local news and emergency management channels.

The flooding was caused by an intense period of rainfall, with 3 to 4 inches falling in less than an hour in some areas.

As of the latest reports, four people remain missing.
