Winter Storm Set to Blanket Northeast with Heavy Snow

The winter storm is expected to intensify as it moves from Texas toward New England. Ample moisture from the Gulf will fuel the storm, leading to heavy precipitation. Forecast models indicate that the storm will arrive midday Sunday and exit by early Monday afternoon, with the heaviest snow falling overnight Sunday into Monday. Wind chills are expected to range from the negatives to the low and mid-teens Sunday evening, with wind gusts potentially reaching 40 mph or higher across portions of Southern New England. Utility crews are pre-positioned ahead of the storm.

This event has prompted winter storm warnings for most of New England. Over 182 million people were under watches or warnings for ice and snow across the US.

The snow is expected to start falling around midday Sunday.

Widespread snow totals of at least 8 inches are expected, with some areas potentially receiving over a foot, and up to 2 feet in some locations.

Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are expected to be most affected.

Travel along the I-95 corridor may be severely impacted, with potential air travel delays or cancellations in major hubs like Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. The National Weather Service in Boston said “travel will be difficult to impossible.”
