While Davis has faced penalty issues, Gonzalez and Jones have been consistently strong. The Patriots' ability to maintain this level of pass defense, combined with their strong run defense, positions them as potential playoff contenders.

Belichick's Draft Preference

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Bill Belichick had a strong inclination to draft defensive end Keion White with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, a pick that ultimately became All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez. The team traded White to the 49ers, raising questions about the Patriots' direction and Belichick's final draft decisions.

Roster Evolution

The Patriots' decision to trade Keion White underscores their ongoing roster adjustments. While Gonzalez solidifies the defense, White's departure signifies a shift in the team's strategic focus. The Patriots now need to look for a more experienced additional defensive back in the offseason.

Gonzalez has been excellent, earning All-Pro honors in 2024 and becoming a cornerstone of the Patriots’ defense.

White fell out of favor and was traded to the 49ers as part of the Patriots’ roster overhaul.
