Tyreek Hill's Future with the Miami Dolphins: Injury, Contract, and Uncertainty

Tyreek Hill's arrival in Miami in 2022 transformed the Dolphins' offense, but recent events have cast doubt on his future with the team. His knee injury in Week 4 of the 2025 season sidelined him and led to the emergence of a more balanced offensive approach under Mike McDaniel.

McDaniel's shift towards a stronger running game has proven successful, reducing the pressure on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. This change coincides with Hill's potential release, which would free up significant cap space for the Dolphins.

Adding to the uncertainty, Hill briefly changed his Instagram bio to "unemployed," fueling speculation about his future plans. While his agent has stated that Hill's rehab is on schedule, the financial implications of his contract remain a significant hurdle.

The Dolphins' rushing attack has improved since Hill's injury. In the first four weeks of the season, they rushed for 292 yards. In the following four games, that number increased to 255 yards, despite a game against the Panthers where they only rushed for 19 yards. Since Week 5, Miami has rushed for over 100 yards in four games, and missed a fifth by only one yard.

Miami's increased reliance on the running game sets up downfield passing, while defenses previously focused on stopping Hill. The team is now more balanced, taking pressure off Tagovailoa.

Hill is recovering from a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL. His agent says his rehab is on schedule, and he is expected to be ready for the 2026 season.

The Dolphins could release Hill after June 1st, saving $36 million in cap space but carrying $15.8 million in dead money. Hill's cap hit for 2026 is approximately $51 million, making a restructure likely necessary for him to stay.

The Dolphins have shifted their focus to the running game, reducing their reliance on Hill and creating a more balanced offensive attack.
