This article commemorates the lives of Debra Lynn Brammer and Judith Lynn King, both of whom passed away in November 2025. We reflect on the...
Jill M. (Taylor) DeMarco (61): Passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer diagnosed in December 2024. She was a dedicated 35-year employee of the State of New York before retiring and moving to her dream location, Maine, in 2022.
George A. Allen (93): Passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough. A Coast Guard veteran, he worked for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company for over 30 years and was a dedicated family man.
Why this matters: Both individuals were cherished members of their families and communities, leaving behind legacies of hard work, kindness, and love for Maine. Their stories reflect dedication, resilience, and the pursuit of personal dreams.
Born March 11, 1963, Jill graduated from Broadalbin-Perth High School (1981) and Fulton-Montgomery Community College (1983). She built a successful career within the New York State government, starting as a stenographer and retiring as a program research specialist administering Weatherization funds for the Division of Housing and Community Renewal in 2018.
Jill married Michael DeMarco in 1990, and they raised their son, Taylor, in Ballston Lake, N.Y., before fulfilling their dream of moving to Cape Elizabeth, Maine in 2022. She cherished exploring Maine's beauty, particularly the trails and woods near her home, sunny afternoons at Willard Beach, and walks to Fort William Park. Jill was known for her deep faith, strong work ethic, love for family (especially her grandsons Grayson and Landon), dogs ("Puppy Alley" visits), reading, poetry, and various outdoor activities like swimming, kayaking, and bicycling. She proudly participated in the Beach to Beacon races and had immense respect for cancer survivors, even before her own diagnosis while training for the Tri for a Cure.
Jill was predeceased by her parents and brother, Timothy. She is survived by her husband Michael, son Taylor (Stephanie), grandsons Grayson and Landon, siblings Glenn Taylor, Deborah Shafer, Rebecca McNamara, and extended family.
Born and raised in New York City, George moved to Maine upon joining the Coast Guard around 1949-1950. He met his wife of 52 years, Martha Malpass, in Maine, and they raised their five children in Portland, attending First Lutheran Church. Later in life, he attended Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church.
George dedicated over 30 years to St. Johnsbury Trucking Company as a driver. After retiring, he and Martha moved to Florida, where he enjoyed golfing, sports, and activities with friends. He was known for his kindness, love of teasing, and distinctive laugh.
George was predeceased by his first wife Martha (2005), son Thomas R. Allen (2023), and second wife Helen Leavitt Allen (2024). He is survived by sons George T. Allen and Paul M. Allen, daughters Karen J. Peterson and Elizabeth M. Fisher, daughters-in-law Susan Allen, Lynn Allen, and Kathy Allen, son-in-law Jay Peterson, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two stepchildren.
