FBI Probes Alleged Chinese Plot to Influence 2020 Election

The investigation was triggered by an FBI document declassified by Director Kash Patel at the request of Senator Chuck Grassley. The document alleges that in late August 2020, the Chinese government produced a large number of fraudulent U.S. driver's licenses, which were then secretly exported to the United States. These licenses were intended to allow tens of thousands of Chinese students and immigrants sympathetic to the CCP to vote for Biden, despite not being eligible.

The document suggests that China collected private U.S. user data from millions of TikTok accounts to create these fraudulent licenses, using real U.S. persons’ information to make them difficult to detect. However, FBI notations on the document raise questions about the validity of this claim, noting that address information was not a valid field when creating a TikTok account.

The FBI recalled the report a day after then-Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress that the FBI had not seen any coordinated voter fraud ahead of the 2020 election. Grassley is now demanding all records relating to the follow-up interview and investigative steps taken by the FBI to determine the veracity of the allegations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Chicago O'Hare International Airport seized nearly 20,000 fraudulent driver's licenses in 2020, with the majority of these shipments arriving from China and Hong Kong. While it remains unclear if this seizure is directly related to the alleged election interference plot, it underscores the broader issue of fraudulent documents being imported from China.

The core allegation is that the Chinese government manufactured and shipped fraudulent U.S. driver's licenses to enable illegal voting in the 2020 presidential election.

The report was recalled for a re-interview of the source, raising questions about the initial vetting process and the information's reliability.
