NYC Mayoral Primary 2025: How to Vote and What to Expect

Early voting runs until June 22, 2025. Find your assigned early voting site as it may differ from your Election Day location.

The primary election is June 24, 2025, but ranked-choice voting may delay official results until July 1.

New York now allows early mail voting for all; the deadline to apply online or by mail has passed, but in-person applications are accepted until June 23, 2025.

Ranked-choice voting lets voters rank up to five candidates. If no candidate gets over 50% of first-choice votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed until two candidates remain.

Expect initial results on election night, with ranked-choice results starting July 1 and certification on July 15.

Early Voting:: Until June 22, 2025

Election Day:: June 24, 2025

Initial Ranked-Choice Results:: July 1, 2025

Certification of Results:: July 15, 2025

Voters rank up to five candidates on the ballot.

If a candidate receives more than half of the first-choice votes, they win.

If no candidate wins a majority, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated.

Votes for the eliminated candidate are redistributed to the voters' next choice.

This process continues until two candidates remain, and the one with the most votes wins.

A:: If you have an early mail or absentee ballot for the election, you cannot use a voting machine at your poll site. If you don't use your absentee ballot, you can only vote in person with an affidavit ballot.
