Matt Van Epps, a Republican candidate in the special election to replace retiring Tennessee Rep. Mark Green, has garnered significant attention due to President Trump's endorsement and the controversies surrounding his campaign. Trump's endorsement on Truth Social urged 'America First Patriots' to vote for Van Epps. However, Van Epps faces a complaint regarding his use of his U.S. Army uniform in a campaign ad. According to The Tennessean, the complaint alleges that this violates U.S. Department of War rules. Furthermore, Van Epps is also being criticized for accepting endorsements from controversial figures. Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, endorsed by Van Epps, was subject to a 2022 state investigation regarding misuse of government funds. State Sen. Jack Johnson, another Van Epps endorser, opposed the removal of a bust of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest, a former KKK Grand Wizard, from the Tennessee State Capitol. Van Epps' campaign also drew criticism when he posted a video with Kid Rock, calling him a 'Country Music Legend'. This was met with mockery online, with many pointing out Kid Rock's primary genre is rock, not country.
