DC Gears Up for Military Parade and Festival

Washington D.C. is preparing for a significant event: the military parade and festival honoring the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday. Matt McCool of the Secret Service has outlined extensive security measures, including miles of fencing and numerous magnetometers, indicating the scale of the event and the level of preparedness.

The parade, coinciding with President Trump’s birthday, has been designated a National Special Security Event, prompting high-level coordination among various law enforcement agencies. With expected large crowds, authorities are advising attendees to use public transport and plan their visit in advance. The event is not without potential disruptions, as officials are also preparing for possible protests, mindful of recent demonstrations in Los Angeles. Despite these concerns, the focus remains on celebrating the Army’s milestone anniversary while ensuring public safety.

Expect 18.5 miles of fencing, concrete barriers, and 175 magnetometers.

Festival entrance is at 7th Street between Madison Drive NW and Jefferson Drive SW. Parade checkpoints are at 14th Street between Constitution and Independence avenues, and C Street between 18th and 19th streets.

Major traffic impacts, so use Metro. Parents should photograph their children in case of separation.
