Iran Pledges to Rebuild Nuclear Program Amidst Tensions

Following attacks on its nuclear facilities by the US and Israel, Iran has pledged to rebuild its nuclear program. President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that destroying buildings and factories would not deter Iran. The attacks occurred after Iran enriched uranium to 83% purity in April, far beyond civilian needs, and expelled IAEA inspectors in May. Tensions remain high, with the US and Israel viewing Iran's nuclear program as a threat. Oman has been attempting to mediate talks between the US and Iran. However, Iran states it is "not in a hurry" to resume nuclear talks with the US, setting preconditions that include the US negotiating "from an equal position based on mutual interest". The Iranian foreign minister also pointed out that China and Russia do not recognize the UN sanctions reimposed against Iran. The European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal, France, the UK, and Germany, have also signaled a desire to restart talks with Tehran, but no substantial progress has been made.
