ULA Launches Kuiper 2 Mission for Amazon

The ULA Atlas 5 launch, designated AV-105, marks the 103rd launch of an Atlas 5 rocket. The mission, referred to as Atlas 5 Kuiper 2, deployed satellites at an altitude of 280 miles (450 kilometers), after which Amazon took command to raise them to their assigned orbit of 392 miles (630 km). This launch was initially scrubbed due to a nitrogen purge issue but was resolved, leading to a successful second attempt.

Amazon has invested heavily in launch capabilities, procuring rockets from ULA, Arianespace, Blue Origin, and SpaceX. The company needs to maintain a rapid launch cadence to meet its regulatory obligations and deploy over 3,200 satellites for its first-generation constellation.
