Atlas V Kuiper 2 Launch Scrubbed Due to Engine Issue

The ULA Atlas V rocket, designated AV-105, experienced an issue with an elevated purge temperature within the booster engine during the countdown, leading to the scrub. The rocket was scheduled to lift off from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying 27 Kuiper satellites to an initial orbit of 280 miles (450 kilometers). Amazon plans to raise the satellites to their assigned orbit of 392 miles (630 km). Amazon faces a regulatory requirement to have half of its planned constellation operational by the end of July 2026. To achieve this, Amazon has procured numerous launches across different providers, including 38 Vulcan rockets from ULA, 18 Ariane 6 rockets, 12 New Glenn rockets from Blue Origin, and 3 Falcon 9 rockets from SpaceX. SpaceX's Starlink already has over 7,700 satellites in orbit and more than 6 million users. This delay underscores the challenges and complexities of large-scale satellite deployments and the competitive landscape of the satellite internet market.

The launch was scrubbed due to a temperature issue connected to the RD-180 engine on the booster.

This launch was intended to deploy 27 satellites.

The goal is to provide fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world using a constellation of over 3,200 satellites.
