Mokokchung Athletics, in collaboration with MY Bharat, will organize the ‘My Bharat–ASMITA FIT INDIA’ sporting event on March 7 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex. This event encourages women and girls across all eligible age categories to participate.
More than two lakh girls from 250 districts nationwide will participate in ASMITA athletics events on March 8 and 9. Raksha Khadse, Minister of State for Sports, highlighted the event's role in enhancing women's involvement in sports and supporting India's 2036 Olympic bid & 2030 Commonwealth Games bid.
The ASMITA program has conducted over 2,500 leagues across the country since its launch in 2021, engaging more than 2.9 lakh women athletes in 34 sports disciplines.
The ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women through Action) program, a flagship initiative under the Khelo India Scheme, is designed to promote women’s participation in sports through grassroots engagement and structured competition. The Mokokchung event will feature track events (100m, 200m, 400m) and field events (Shot Put, Long Jump) for participants in under 13, 13–18, and above 18 age groups.
Digital certificates and medals will be awarded to participants and winners through the ASMITA Portal, ensuring recognition and encouragement for their involvement. Workshops will also introduce participants to officiating norms and digital data handling, nurturing future talent for international sports events.
This initiative not only celebrates International Women's Day but also contributes to developing a pool of women technical officials, vital for supporting major sporting events in India.
