Gators CB Dijon Johnson Arrested on Drug and Firearm Charges

Dijon Johnson, a starting cornerback for the Florida Gators, was apprehended by Tampa Police Department officers following a traffic stop in Ybor City. According to the police report, the vehicle was pulled over for running a stop sign. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana, which led to a search.

The search revealed marijuana and 8 grams of synthetic marijuana inside a backpack. Additionally, a black Glock 19 loaded with 17 rounds was found in the car. Johnson was charged with two felonies (possession of a firearm and possession of synthetic marijuana) and two misdemeanors (marijuana possession and resisting arrest without violence).

Johnson's attorney has filed a not guilty plea for all charges. The University of Florida and Coach Billy Napier have acknowledged the situation and stated they are gathering facts and cooperating with the legal process.

Prior to the arrest, Johnson had undergone surgery for a torn labrum and was limited in spring drills. He recorded 27 tackles and two pass breakups last season.

He faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, possession of cannabis (less than 20 grams), possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He was arrested on May 2, 2025, and booked on May 3, 2025.
