UConn’s Bubble Status:

UConn (38-21) faces uncertainty despite a strong finish to the season, winning 25 of their last 29 games. Their resume includes notable out-of-conference wins against Miami, North Carolina, and Vanderbilt. However, their non-conference strength of schedule is ranked 48th, adding to the selection committee’s dilemma.

Creighton’s Victory:

Creighton’s 7-4 win over UConn in the Big East Tournament final secured their spot in the NCAA Tournament. Dakota Duffalo’s early home run and Tate Gillen’s key plays contributed to the victory. The Bluejays will learn their tournament matchup on Selection Monday.

CCSU’s Triumph:

CCSU’s 6-5 victory over LIU in the NEC Tournament was hard-fought, with Brady Short scoring the winning run. Wyatt Cameron’s outstanding relief pitching earned him the tournament MVP award. CCSU, known for their strong hitting, will represent the NEC in the NCAA Tournament.

Fairfield’s Championship:

Fairfield’s 7-6 victory over Rider, highlighted by Nolan Colby’s 10th-inning home run, secured their MAAC championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Matthew Bucciero’s record-breaking RBI and TJ Schmalze’s home run also contributed to their success.

Conference Considerations:

The Big East’s standing as the 12th-ranked conference and potential “bid steals” in other conference tournaments complicate UConn’s chances. The committee may face a tough decision between UConn and Xavier for an at-large bid.

UConn’s current record is 38-21.

Creighton (Big East), CCSU (NEC), and Fairfield (MAAC) have secured automatic bids.
