VaSID Academic All-State Team Honors Top Virginia Student-Athletes

The VaSID Academic All-State Team acknowledges student-athletes' commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

University of Richmond: Six Spiders were named to the team, including Addie Budnik (women's basketball), Katie Chignell (swimming & diving), Laurel Kurtz and Morgan Lyons (cross country/track & field), Brady O'Brien (baseball), and Joe Sheridan (men's lacrosse). Budnik earned her fourth straight honor and led her team to a historic season, while O'Brien was a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist.

Old Dominion University: Six Monarchs were recognized, including Sofia Johnson (women’s tennis), Gustaf Hansson and Kiersten Donnelly (swimming), Dylan Brown (baseball), En’Dya Buford (women’s basketball), and Callie Culhane (lacrosse).

James Madison University: Six Dukes were selected: Savannah Derey (lacrosse), Jacob Dobbs (football), Peyton McDaniel (women's basketball), Cassidy Strittmatter (field hockey), Václav Tichý (men's golf), and Demitri Turner (men's soccer). McDaniel and Turner earned their second straight honor, and several were finalists for the JMU Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Student-athletes must be sophomores or higher in academic standing and maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA.

The VaSID All-State Team recognized 216 student-athletes representing 36 institutions across the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2025.
