Cleveland Guardians Sign Connor Brogdon to Major League Deal

The Cleveland Guardians have signed veteran right-handed reliever Connor Brogdon to a one-year major league deal worth $900,000 for the 2026 season. This move aims to bolster the Guardians’ bullpen depth with an experienced arm. Brogdon, who will turn 31 in January, had an up-and-down season with the Los Angeles Angels in 2025, posting a 5.55 ERA in 43 appearances.

Prior to his time with the Angels and Dodgers, Brogdon had a successful stint with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2020 to 2022, where he recorded a 3.42 ERA and a 25.1% strikeout rate over 113 innings. The Guardians are hoping that Brogdon can recapture some of that earlier form. His fastball velocity in 2025 averaged 95.5 mph, signaling a return to his previous form.

The Guardians' bullpen was a strong unit in 2025, finishing third in the majors with a 3.44 ERA, even after losing closer Emmanuel Clase. Brogdon’s addition provides another option for manager Stephen Vogt as they look to maintain their bullpen’s effectiveness.

Brogdon is out of options, meaning he cannot be sent to the minors without being exposed to waivers. This suggests the Guardians intend to keep him on the major league roster, at least to start the season.
