Diamondbacks Recall Jordan Lawlar for Third Stint

Jordan Lawlar’s repeated call-ups reflect the Diamondbacks' ongoing efforts to integrate their top prospects into the major league roster. Despite struggling in his previous stints, the team remains optimistic about his potential impact.

Lawlar’s minor league performance has been impressive, particularly in Reno, where he slashed .313/.403/.564 with 11 home runs in 63 games. However, he has yet to translate that success to the major league level, going 4-for-31 in his debut in September 2023 and hitless in a brief May call-up this year.

The current plan is to give Lawlar consistent playing time at both shortstop and third base, while also allowing Blaze Alexander to showcase his versatility by playing multiple positions. This approach aims to provide Lawlar with the opportunity to adjust to major league pitching and defense while also evaluating Alexander’s adaptability.

This decision comes as the Diamondbacks evaluate their roster for the upcoming seasons. With Lawlar having one option year remaining, the team has the flexibility to make informed decisions about his future role based on his performance in this stint. The team traded away Eugenio Suarez, opening up possibilities for Lawlar and Alexander to compete for playing time.

Lawlar was recalled to give him another opportunity to prove himself at the major league level and to evaluate his potential for future seasons.

Lawlar is expected to play shortstop and third base, with occasional starts at each position.

Blaze Alexander will move around the field, including playing some games in the outfield, to accommodate Lawlar’s playing time.
