Reds Bolster Rotation by Acquiring Zack Littell From Rays

The Cincinnati Reds are making moves to improve their team as they aim for a playoff berth. The acquisition of Zack Littell from the Tampa Bay Rays adds a reliable arm to their pitching rotation. Littell, 29, has a 3.58 ERA in 22 starts this season and has shown good control, walking fewer than 5% of opposing hitters in consecutive seasons. While he doesn't have overpowering stuff, his ability to throw strikes and provide steady innings makes him a valuable addition.

The Reds, who also acquired Ke'Bryan Hayes earlier in the day, are addressing multiple needs as the trade deadline approaches. With injuries to key starters, Littell provides needed depth and flexibility, as he can also pitch out of the bullpen. The Reds are currently third in the NL Central and are looking to make a push for a Wild Card spot.

The Rays, known for their ability to develop and trade players effectively, continue to stock their farm system by acquiring two players from the Reds. This move is in line with their strategy of selling high on players before they reach free agency.

The Rays will receive two players in return, but the names have not yet been released pending medical reviews.

Littell is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the year.

Littell relies on control and command, sitting in the 91-92 MPH range with his fastball and sinker. He doesn't have high strikeout numbers but limits walks.
