Vitor Belfort Enters UFC Hall of Fame: A Pioneer Remembered

Vitor Belfort's career is marked by both remarkable achievements and significant controversies. Starting at just 19 years old, he quickly made a name for himself by winning the UFC heavyweight tournament. His early victories showcased his aggressive style and knockout power, making him an instant fan favorite.

Throughout his career, Belfort faced many top contenders, securing wins against legends such as Wanderlei Silva, Randy Couture, Rich Franklin, Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson. He also challenged champions like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones, though he fell short in those title bids.

One of the most debated aspects of Belfort’s career was his use of testosterone-replacement therapy (TRT). While legal at the time, it stirred controversy and led to the Nevada State Athletic Commission banning TRT without a medical exemption. This period saw some of his most memorable wins, including knockouts against Bisping, Rockhold, and Henderson.

Belfort also ventured into boxing, competing in exhibition matches and securing a notable win against Evander Holyfield in 2021. Despite his retirement from MMA in 2018, his impact on the sport remains significant, earning him a place in the UFC Hall of Fame.

His induction recognizes his role as a pioneer during a transformative era for the sport. Dana White acknowledged Belfort's early impact, stating, "Vitor was a pioneer of the sport and is definitely a UFC legend. It will be an honor to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer."

The 2025 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 26, at T-Mobile Arena.
