Suns Claim Jordan Goodwin Off Waivers After Lakers Release

Jordan Goodwin's return to the Phoenix Suns provides additional guard depth. After being waived by the Lakers, who needed to create cap space to sign Marcus Smart, Goodwin was quickly picked up by the Suns. Goodwin had a previous stint with the Suns after being acquired in the Bradley Beal trade, before being shipped to Memphis.

Goodwin, who went undrafted in 2021, has bounced around the league, playing for the Wizards, Suns, Grizzlies, and Lakers. Known for his defensive versatility and improved jump shot, Goodwin could become a valuable rotation piece for the Suns.

The Miami Heat were also interested in acquiring Goodwin, viewing him as a potential undrafted gem. However, the Suns were quicker to claim him off waivers. Goodwin's addition gives the Suns 14 standard contracts, along with three two-way deals. His contract will remain non-guaranteed until January 10, 2026, and he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Lakers waived Jordan Goodwin to create roster space and salary cap flexibility to sign Marcus Smart.

Goodwin averaged 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 29 games for the Lakers.
