Tony Bradley Helps Pacers Blunt Knicks' Rebounding Edge in Eastern Conference Finals

The Indiana Pacers entered Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals looking to address their rebounding struggles from Game 1. Coach Rick Carlisle made a strategic decision to insert Tony Bradley, a reserve center who had seen limited playing time in the postseason, into the lineup to counter Knicks' center Mitchell Robinson's athleticism and rebounding prowess.

Bradley’s impact was immediate. In his brief stints during the second and third quarters, he effectively boxed out Robinson, limiting his rebounding opportunities. While Bradley’s stat line of one point and two rebounds may seem modest, his contribution went beyond the numbers. He provided the Pacers with a physical presence and helped tire out Robinson, who finished the game with six points and nine rebounds.

Carlisle emphasized the importance of Bradley’s contribution, stating, "Tony Bradley hasn’t played in the series, but he’s one of our better rebounders. We elected to go with him to spell Myles [Turner] a little bit. We’re a team that needs everybody. That’s how we’ve got to play."

By contrast, the Knicks have relied heavily on their starters, with limited contributions from their bench. Veteran big men Precious Achiuwa and P.J. Tucker have not seen any playing time in the series, highlighting the difference in coaching strategies between Carlisle and Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau.

The Pacers’ ability to utilize their entire roster, including unexpected contributors like Bradley, has been a key factor in their success thus far in the series. As the series shifts to Indiana, the Knicks will need to find ways to generate more production from their bench if they hope to overcome the 2-0 deficit.
