NYCFC Faces Pittsburgh Riverhounds in US Open Cup Round of 32

The US Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States. MLS teams have dominated the competition since 1996. Los Angeles FC, the defending champions, will not defend their title this year due to participation in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The U.S. Soccer Federation announced changes to the 2025 tournament format. NYCFC did not compete in the 2024 edition and has never won a US Open Cup. The Riverhounds have reached the Round of 32 for three consecutive tournaments since the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching the quarterfinal stage in 2023.

NYCFC has signed three players from New York City FC II to short-term agreements: Mac Learned, Peter Molinari, and Seymour Reid. These players are available for selection for the match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Molinari is set to join the First Team as a Homegrown player in 2027. Reid became the Club’s youngest player to make his First Team debut earlier this season.

The game is on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
