Red Gerard Returns to Olympics with Cleveland Tribute Snowboard

Red Gerard's return to the Olympics is marked by a tribute to his Cleveland origins, displayed on his unique snowboard. This gesture underscores the importance of his roots as he approaches what might be his last Olympic Games. After winning gold in 2018, Gerard felt the pressure in Beijing, leading to disappointing results. Now, he's focused on enjoying the experience and landing his tricks.

Joining Gerard are fellow Colorado snowboarders Ollie Martin and Jake Canter. Martin, despite his young age, is already making waves with innovative tricks. Canter earned his spot by winning the U.S. Grand Prix in Aspen, demonstrating his skill and readiness for the Olympic stage.

The structure of the competition has been altered, with big air preceding slopestyle, a change that most competitors find less than ideal. However, Gerard sees a silver lining in the switch, suggesting it could help him prepare for slopestyle.

The big air qualifier begins on Thursday, with the final slated for Feb. 7. The men’s slopestyle qualification and finals are Feb. 16 and 18, respectively.
