Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey Tease 'Sunday in the Park With George' Revival

The original 'Sunday in the Park With George' premiered in 1984, starring Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. The musical delves into the artistic process of Georges Seurat, a fictionalized version of the famous painter, and his muse Dot. The second act shifts focus to Seurat's great-grandson, also named George, a contemporary artist. A revival starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford took place on Broadway in 2017.

According to Deadline, Marianne Elliott is expected to direct the revival. News of the potential revival has generated significant buzz, with fans and celebrities expressing their enthusiasm on social media. Joe Locke from 'Heartstopper' commented, “Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes,” on Grande and Bailey's Instagram post. The Barbican Theatre has not yet issued an official statement.

Grande recently hinted at an exciting upcoming announcement, stating, "I can’t say much yet, but it’s something that inspires me deeply. It contains multitudes. I promise I’ll DM you the day it’s announced."

Both Grande and Bailey are expected to take breaks from their current work to accommodate the musical. Grande will take a break from pop stardom after her 'Eternal Sunshine' tour, while Bailey will pause acting to focus on his charity, The Shameless Fund.

The revival is rumored to open in the summer of 2027.

London's Barbican Theatre is the speculated venue.
