Cambridge South Station to Open in June, Marking Great British Railways' First Branded Station

Cambridge South station is strategically located to serve the Biomedical Campus, Europe’s largest medical research center, offering up to nine trains per hour to Cambridge city center. The station's opening was initially slated for 2025 but faced delays due to contractor issues. Rail Minister Peter Hendy emphasizes that the station will improve access to jobs and facilities, boosting the Biomedical Campus's growth. The East West Rail line will eventually connect through this station to Oxford, although direct services may not start until 2030 due to ongoing delays. The station's design, including signage in GBR brand colors and the new Railway Clock, was developed to save costs. Meanwhile, HS2 Ltd has announced contracts for its control center and rolling stock depot in Birmingham, creating over 1,000 jobs and signaling progress in the HS2 project.

The station is scheduled to open in late June.

The adjacent Biomedical Campus is expected to contribute £18.2 billion to the UK economy by 2050, partly due to the new transport links.

Approximately 1.8 million passengers are expected annually.
