Severe Weather: A slow-moving storm system will bring heavy rain and potential severe weather to the central and southern US. Why this matters: Outdoor plans may need adjustments, and flash flooding is a risk in some areas.
Tornado Activity: 2025 has seen the most tornado reports since 2011, with over 900 preliminary reports. Why this matters: Increased awareness and preparedness are crucial, especially in high-risk areas.

The central and southern US will experience a multi-day thunderstorm and heavy rainfall system. The severe storm risk stretches from the southern Plains to the Southeast, with possible isolated storms in South Florida. Flash flooding is a significant concern, particularly in southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and northern Arkansas.
Saturday: Showers and storms over the Plains southeastward to parts of the lower and mid-Mississippi valleys. Localized heavy rainfall might trigger flooding, especially in the Ozarks of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas as well as adjacent parts of southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma. Severe storms could pack large hail, wind damage and an isolated tornado, especially in much of Oklahoma.
Sunday: Rain chances from the Plains into portions of the South. Heavy rain could produce a flash flood threat, especially from Oklahoma into southeast Kansas, southern Missouri and much of Arkansas. Isolated severe storms in the Southern Plains could unleash strong winds, large hail and possibly an isolated tornado. There is a moderate risk of flash flooding for northeastern Oklahoma, northwestern Arkansas and southwestern Missouri. This area could pick up as much as six inches of rain by Sunday, resulting in a significant threat of flash flooding.
Memorial Day: Rain and thunderstorms will plague much of the South and Plains. The rainfall could also be heavy, resulting in localized flash flooding in portions of the South. Scattered severe storms could impact Texas with high winds and hail.
Air Travel: Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Ensure you have a REAL ID or acceptable alternative, such as a passport. Be aware of new restrictions on lithium batteries.
