Berner and DeSorbo first met while working at the same company in New York and later became friends on Bravo's *Summer House*. Berner has also found success as a stand-up comedian, even opening for Poehler and Tina Fey. Together, they host the *Giggly Squad* podcast and co-authored the bestselling book *How to Giggle: A Guide to Taking Life Less Seriously*.

The series was set up at Universal TV through Poehler's exclusive deal there, garnering interest from multiple buyers before landing at Netflix with a script-to-series commitment.
