Apple TV+ Series 'Killer Instinct' to Film in Pittsburgh, Boosting Local Economy

The new Apple TV+ series, based on Lars Kepler's bestselling 'Killer Instinct' novels, is set to begin filming in Pittsburgh this summer. The series, which stars Liev Schreiber as homicide detective Jonah Lynn, Zazie Beetz as FBI Agent Saga Bauer, and Stephen Graham as serial killer Jurek Walter, tells the story of Lynn's move to Western Pennsylvania and his efforts to protect his family from a cunning serial killer.

Economic Impact:

The 10-episode series is expected to create more than 3,500 new jobs and generate $108 million for Pennsylvania’s economy, according to the state Department of Community and Economic Development. The series will receive $32.4 million in tax credits through the Pennsylvania Film Production Tax Credit Program, which offers a 25% tax credit to productions that spend at least 60% of their total budget in the state.

Pennsylvania Film Commissioner Gino Anthony Pesi emphasized the importance of the tax credit, stating, 'We worked closely with A&E to approve this film production tax credit quickly, helping to create and support jobs for our local crews. We’re excited to welcome this new series to Allegheny County and hope they continue filming here in our commonwealth for years to come.'

Long-Term Benefits:

Unlike movies, TV series often bring long-term benefits to the city. 'Mayor of Kingstown,' a Paramount+ series starring Jeremy Renner, is currently shooting its fourth season in the region.

Casting and Production:

The series is written and executive produced by BAFTA Award winner Rowan Joffe and John Hlavin. The first two episodes will be directed and executive produced by Emmy, Peabody and DGA Award winner Tim Van Patten.
