Jensen Ackles Compares 'Countdown' Character to 'Supernatural' Dean

In Prime Video’s 'Countdown', Jensen Ackles plays LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who is recruited to a secret task force investigating the murder of a Homeland Security officer. The series, created by Derek Haas, also stars Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Uli Latukefu, Elliot Knight, and Violett Beane.

Ackles notes that while Dean Winchester fought ghosts and demons, Mark Meachum confronts human threats. He maintains that his approach to playing Dean – grounding him in reality, regardless of the situation – applies to his portrayal of Meachum. This involves bringing humanity to the character, making him relatable even in extreme circumstances. He also emphasizes that this same approach was used for his character, Soldier Boy, in 'The Boys'&ref=yanuki.com, where he tried to find the good side of a character who sees himself as the hero.

Ackles explained that his approach, with anything in the sci-fi genre or even the horror world, like Supernatural, is that I always try to [play it the same]. In fact, we would tell guest stars coming on to Supernatural, "This is real. Like, play this as real life as possible. We are in the real world, and shit is going down, and you can't explain it." I always tried to play Dean as real as possible in a world that is unexplainable.
