Sudanese Militia Kills Hundreds at El-Fasher Hospital

The conflict in Sudan between the RSF and the national army has led to a dire humanitarian situation, particularly in the Darfur region. The RSF’s takeover of El-Fasher and subsequent attacks on the Saudi Maternity Hospital have resulted in mass casualties and the collapse of essential medical services. Satellite imagery and videos circulating online, allegedly filmed by RSF fighters, depict the atrocities committed at the hospital. The US has accused the RSF and allied Arab militias of committing genocide against African ethnic groups in the current conflict. The situation is further compounded by a blockade that has led to starvation and famine, with many civilians fleeing to nearby towns like Tawila in search of aid.

The hospital was attacked by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in the death of hundreds of patients and the abduction of medical staff.

The city has been under siege for over 500 days, leading to starvation, famine, and a collapse of essential services, further exacerbated by the RSF’s scorched earth policy.

The UN Security Council held a meeting on the crisis, but the UN humanitarian chief noted a sense of resignation in the global reaction, highlighting a "crisis of apathy."
