Anchored in a cove near Naushon Island, they were awakened by their dog barking and smoke filling the cabin. The boat was on fire, forcing them to abandon ship and swim to the nearby island. After spending more than a day on the island, Tyler Sullivan found a working marine radio, which allowed him to call for help. The Coast Guard responded to the mayday call and airlifted the family to safety. Sadly, Cynthia Sullivan passed away due to complications from the incident. The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
