Firefighters from the Salt Lake City Fire Department tackled two separate fires along Interstate 80 early Friday. The first fire was reported at 4:54 a.m. near the Redwood entrance on I-80. Fire crews were able to quickly contain this fire, preventing it from spreading and causing heavy damage.
A second fire started between the I-80 and I-215 interchange, burning approximately one acre of land. No injuries were reported in either incident, and the causes of both fires are currently under investigation.
The Utah Department of Transportation reported the fires ignited shortly before 5 a.m. near eastbound I-80 at milepost 117 by the I-215 west belt. Although the fires briefly impacted traffic, crews managed to bring them under control rapidly.
Drivers can expect to see fire crews cleaning up hot spots throughout the morning, though officials do not anticipate this will further impact traffic.
