Honolulu firefighters are investigating a second fire at the same Aina Haina home on Lawelawe Street, raising concerns among neighbors. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) is working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
Early this morning, Honolulu firefighters responded to a fire at 668 Lawelawe St. in Aina Haina, the location of a previous fire in August. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:24 a.m., dispatching ten units and 38 personnel to the scene. Firefighters arrived at 6:32 a.m. and initiated a defensive fire attack, securing a water supply to combat the blaze. The fire was declared under control at 6:42 a.m. and fully extinguished at 6:55 a.m.
This is the second time in recent months that firefighters have been called to this property. Following the first fire, Somsack Phanthavong, 51, was taken into custody and charged with failure to control widely dangerous means. Neighbors have expressed concerns about the property and the individual residing there.
The Honolulu Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire. An update will be released once the final investigation report is complete.
