The region's vulnerability to flooding is heightened due to the cumulative effect of recent rainfall events. The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for multiple counties, urging residents and motorists to be aware of rising water levels. Rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour could prompt flash flooding, causing streams, creeks, and rivers to rise rapidly.
The heaviest rain and greatest risk for flooding are focused to the south of Pittsburgh. While some areas may see very little rain, others could be drenched and experience flash flooding. An additional one to two inches, locally up to three inches, of rain are possible.
Looking ahead, the weather pattern is expected to dry out, and temperatures will rise for the first weekend of summer. However, another round of rain is expected on Thursday with a cold front.
