The argument escalated, leading Cobos-Martinez to retrieve a machete and attack Nagamallaiah.

Witnesses reported that Nagamallaiah ran towards the front office, seeking help, but Cobos-Martinez continued his assault, even as the victim's wife and son tried to intervene. The suspect then decapitated Nagamallaiah, kicked his head into the parking lot, and disposed of it in a dumpster.

Cobos-Martinez was apprehended while still carrying the machete and the victim's belongings. He has a history of violent crime, including a carjacking incident in California.
