Hazen Fire Continues to Burn Near Buckeye, Arizona

The Hazen Fire, burning south of Buckeye near Hazen and Rooks roads, has been actively burning for over 24 hours. Despite efforts by Buckeye Fire Department and the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), the fire remains uncontained due to strong winds and dry conditions. The fire jumped fire lines, burning an additional 300-plus acres, and wind gusts reached approximately 30 mph, pushing the fire to the northeast.

Air support has been critical in battling the blaze, with helicopters making water bucket drops and single-engine air tankers dropping retardant and water to knock down spot fires along the perimeter. However, the wind has made aerial operations challenging, forcing the grounding of helicopters at times.

Previous efforts to clear brush along the highway and around nearby property appear to have played a crucial role in protecting infrastructure and homes. This fuel clearing helped to reduce the risk of the fire spreading quickly and provided a buffer zone for firefighters to work.

Residents in the area have been urged to monitor air quality conditions due to smoke from the fire. While no evacuations have been ordered, some residents have prepared for potential evacuations by packing essential items.

As of Sunday evening, the Hazen Fire has burned approximately 980 acres and remains 0% contained.

No evacuations or pre-evacuations were in place as of Sunday night.

Firefighters are battling the blaze with air support, including helicopters and single-engine air tankers, as well as ground crews.
