49ers Sign Veteran WR Christian Kirk to Bolster Receiving Corps

Christian Kirk's arrival in San Francisco marks another step in the 49ers' efforts to revamp their receiving corps. After losing Jauan Jennings and with Brandon Aiyuk likely on his way out, the team has moved quickly to secure proven talent. Kirk, who had a 1,000-yard season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, brings a combination of speed and route-running ability to the 49ers' offense.

His best season came in 2022 with the Jaguars, where he recorded 84 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns. While his production has declined since then, he remains a capable receiver who can contribute in various ways. In 2025 with the Texans, Kirk had 28 receptions for 239 yards and one touchdown.

With Mike Evans expected to occupy the "X" position and Ricky Pearsall potentially playing as the "Z," Kirk could fill the role of slot receiver. Additionally, his experience as a returner could provide value on special teams, although he hasn't returned kicks since 2023.

The 49ers also have several draft picks that they could use to continue adding talent at the position. With six picks in the first four rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft, the team has the opportunity to inject some youth into the receiving corps.

Christian Kirk signed a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.

The 49ers signed Mike Evans and are likely losing Brandon Aiyuk. Jauan Jennings has also departed.

Kirk is expected to compete for playing time at the slot receiver position and potentially contribute on special teams as a returner.
