49ers Sign Veteran OT D.J. Humphries

D.J. Humphries, originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, brings a wealth of experience to the 49ers offensive line. After spending most of his career with the Cardinals and a brief stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, Humphries joins the 49ers to provide depth and potential starting ability. In 2024, Humphries played two games for the Chiefs, where he struggled with pass protection, allowing three sacks and 11 pressures on 69 pass-blocking snaps, earning a career-low 30.5 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus.

Before his time with the Chiefs, Humphries had a notable career with the Cardinals, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021. However, a torn ACL in December 2023 led to his release and subsequent signing with Kansas City. The 49ers are banking on Humphries regaining his earlier form and providing stability on the right side of the offensive line, especially given his extensive experience at left tackle. With the 49ers not addressing the offensive tackle position in the draft, Humphries fills a critical need for experienced depth and potential starting caliber play.
