NFL Mourns the Loss of Former Cardinals Coach Dave McGinnis

Dave McGinnis, or “Coach Mac” as he was widely known, left an indelible mark on the sport. He began his NFL coaching career with the Chicago Bears as a linebackers coach for a decade before joining the Arizona Cardinals as defensive coordinator in 1996. He became the interim head coach in 2000 and held the position through 2003. While his record with the Cardinals was 17-40, his tenure was marked by memorable moments, including the "miracle" touchdown pass from Josh McCown to Nate Poole in the 2003 season finale. This dramatic win knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs and secured an unforgettable locker room celebration.

After his time with the Cardinals, McGinnis coached linebackers for the Titans from 2004-2011 and served as assistant head coach for the St. Louis Rams from 2012-2016. In 2017, he transitioned to broadcasting, becoming the Tennessee Titans radio analyst.

McGinnis's career was defined by his passion for the game and his players. He was known for his matter-of-fact analysis, homespun anecdotes, and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His contributions to both the Cardinals and the Titans organizations will be remembered fondly.
