NFL Hall of Fame 2026 Semifinalists Announced

The Pro Football Hall of Fame selection process is a multi-stage affair. Starting with a broad list of nominees, the field is gradually narrowed down to 25 semifinalists, then 15 finalists. Before the Super Bowl, the finalists are further reduced to 10, then 7. Selectors then cast their votes, requiring an 80% threshold for election.

This year's list of semifinalists is particularly competitive, blending first-ballot hopefuls with seasoned candidates still awaiting their call to the Hall. The inclusion of Brees, Fitzgerald, Gore and Witten ensures significant attention, while the continued presence of Manning, Holt, Smith, and Kuechly underscores the depth of talent under consideration.

With a maximum of five modern-era players able to be selected, the competition will be fierce. Some deserving players may have to wait another year for their Hall of Fame moment.

Between four and eight new members will be elected, including modern-era players, seniors, coaches, and contributors.

Players need to receive at least 80% favorable votes from the selectors.

The list of 15 finalists will be announced before the Super Bowl in February.
